Police in Lucknow, India, claim to have solved the murder of a seven-year-old boy whose body was found in a suitcase on a train.

A suitcase containing the body of the boy, Akshay Verma, was found at the Varanasi railway station on Wednesday night, after the Lucknow-Varanasi passenger train arrived.

Police say the boy had been kidnapped and murdered by a man and his wife, who had been living in Lucknow.

The couple, Ajit Singh and his wife Sunita, were living as tenants in the house of Ramesh Verma, whose son was Akshay.

Verma had received a large amount of money after the Lucknow Development Authority acquired his land.

Police say the couple murdered Akshay in a bid to get a huge ransom, and after packing the body in a suitcase, dumped it in the luggage van of the Varanasi bound passenger train.

However, the photograph of the body was instantly sent to the Lucknow police and Akshay's body was quickly identified.

Sunita has been arrested and police are still looking for Ajit.
