Prepping him for a bench role in the postseason, the Atlanta Braves activated veteran Pablo Sandoval for Sunday's regular-season finale against the visiting Boston Red Sox.

The switch-hitting third baseman signed a minor league deal with the Braves on Sept. 13, three days after he was released by the San Francisco Giants.

Sandoval, 34, batted .220 with one homer and six RBIs in 33 games with the Giants this season. Over 13 seasons, 11 with the Giants, he is a career .279 hitter with 149 home runs and 628 RBIs.

The National League East champion Braves hope to benefit from his postseason experience.

The two-time All-Star won three World Series titles with the Giants: 2010, 2012 and 2014. He was the MVP of the 2012 World Series and is a career .344/.389/.545 hitter in the postseason with six homers and 20 RBIs in 39 games.
